Reuse for Refugees
We want to make furniture donations accessible so that quality pieces can be saved from the curb or the dump and go to homes in need. So, in partnership with Ruth’s Refuge, we’ve committed to offering significantly reduced rates for furniture pick-up of home staples in high demand among recently placed refugees and asylees throughout New York City.

Every day, refugees and asylees are placed in NYC apartments without the means to furnish them. Through our partnership with Ruth’s Refuge, we’re able to divert furniture from the curb to these individuals and families in need.

Anyone with household items in great condition is welcome to contact Ruth’s Refuge about making an in-kind donation. We are able to provide low-cost pick-ups of high-need items to people within the five boroughs.

RUTH’S REFUGE & REUSE FOR REFUGEES
Filling an urgent need in NYC, Ruth’s Refuge brings furniture and housewares to recently placed refugees and asylum-seekers throughout the five boroughs. We have built a partnership over the last two years that includes free and discounted services and diverting our clients’ unwanted furniture from the curb into empty homes.

ASHLEY GAVIN & THE QUEER DETAINEE EMPOWERMENT PROJECT
We partnered with comedian and creator, Ashley Gavin, to support her independent podcast, We’re Having Gay Sex, and bring awareness to QDEP. The campaign drew attention to QDEP’s work across four podcast episodes and culminated with a donation from Cool Hand Movers, matching increased subscriptions to Gavin’s platform through those four weeks.
