2. We review and confirm approvals
Ruth’s Refuge reviews each submission to confirm condition and fit. We will follow up by email whether or not your item is accepted.

3. We pick up and deliver for free
On January 6, 2026, our crew arrives during your confirmed window, removes the approved items, and delivers them to Ruth’s Refuge.

Why your donation matters

Many refugee and asylee families arrive in New York City with housing secured but little else. Apartments are often empty, without beds, seating, or basic household items.

We’ve partnered with Ruth’s Refuge, a 501(c)3 to get your donated furniture into those empty apartments.

Reuse for Refugees Day also keeps good furniture in use instead of sending it to the curb or landfill. What no longer fits your home can become part of someone else’s new beginning.

FAQ: Reuse for Refugees Day 2026

  • WHAT ITEMS WILL YOU PICK-UP?

The Reuse for Refugees drive is focused on Ruth’s Refuge’s current high-need items; sofas, dressers, dining sets, and rugs. We’re able to help you donate up to three (3) approved furniture pieces per household on Reuse for Refugees Day.

  • WILL I RECEIVE A DONATION RECEIPT?

Ruth’s Refuge is a 501(c)(3) and can provide a donation receipt. If you make a donation on January 6th, please allow two weeks before contacting Ruth’s Refuge at info@ruthsrefuge.org to request your receipt.

  • WHAT TIME ON JAN. 6th WILL YOU PICK UP MY FURNITURE?

You can select your preferred arrival windows in the form. Currently, our available arrival windows are 8-11 AM, 11-2 PM, and 2 PM to 5 PM.

  • CAN I DONATE SOMETHING IF IT’S DAMAGED?

Ruth’s Refuge is seeking like-new, gently used furnishings for displaced individuals and families building a new life here in NYC. They cannot accept pieces that are damaged, stained, or exposed to pets or pests. If you have something to dispose of, we can help with that, please fill out our estimate request form for disposal services.

  • CAN I ARRANGE MY OWN DELIVERY TO RUTH’S REFUGE?

Yes, you can contact info@ruthsrefuge.org to schedule a drop-off at their storage in Gowanus, Brooklyn or inquire about donating items not listed here.

  • WHAT IF I'M NOT AVAILABLE ON JAN. 6th?

We offer our Reuse for Refugees service—pickups of furniture donations at steeply discounted rates—year-round. Please submit our evergreen donation form to inquire about a pickup for a different date.

Why Reuse for Refugees?

Our company mission is to help all New Yorkers feel at home. That includes new arrivals who could use a helping hand. After years of seeing usable furniture pieces hit the curb for trash day, we’re happy to help your unwanted pieces find a new home.
